Mother: Helene von Luz

Interesting Historical Facts: With an inferior fighting force compared to the Allies, the Afrika Korps of Nazi Germany enjoyed much battle success under the command of Erwin Rommel. Being an unquestioned military genius, Erwin Rommel knew well that accurate espionage against the adversary is a key to victory. With valuable information gathered from spying on the Allies military, Erwin Rommel made brilliant surprise attacks on the Allies, which ended in great success for Erwin Rommel.

The Allied military was so bewildered by the amazing tactical and strategic prowess of Erwin Rommel that they started calling Erwin Rommel the "Desert Fox" because it was extremely difficult for them to find Erwin Rommel's army. However, everything was against Erwin Rommel to prevent his long term success. Erwin Rommel couldn't achieve any lasting solidarity with the Italian military. Furthermore, Adolf Hitler refused to resupply Erwin Rommel's forces so that Erwin Rommel could achieve full victory against the Allies. Hitler eventually made Erwin Rommel go to to Cairo, Egypt.

Even though Erwin Rommel was under supplied and had the constant pressures of attrition without replacement, Erwin Rommel had significant triumphs against the Allies in his movement towards Cairo. Erwin Rommel made the British military retreat all the way to el-Alamein, which is located near Alexandria. The Arabs hailed Erwin Rommel as a savior for routing the British military.

Back in Germany, Erwin Rommel started to become overly popular with the people of Germany. Yet none of Erwin Rommel's accomplishments in North Africa impressed Hitler because Hitler believed Europe was the most important fighting location of World War II. By not giving Erwin Rommel enough supplies, the Allies were able to slowly grind Erwin Rommel's forces down. After several lost battles, Erwin Rommel was brought back to Germany.
